The site still exists :) I should update it sometime. Random stuff going on.... I no longer work at Gas Powered Games... I work at a company called Quosal (with Bitter, SoS~Erebus, and SoS~Pitt). I got a new baby girl... her name is Kerrigan. I expect I'll come out of retirement for a bit when StarCraft II comes out =]

We got a few new features coming along in our next GPGnet patch. This includes a nice award system for folks, as well as important bug fixes for 2v2 ranked play... and the opening of 3v3 ranked play. I have a lot of work to try to get done in the next month before my wife has our first child. Then I'm kind of out of it for a bit =)

SupCom happenings May 27, 2007 by IN-Agent911 at 3:11pm comments(124)

I finally got into the top 20 in 1v1 SupCom. Next goal is to try to get into the top 10. I'm going to spend some time with SonofShagrat tomorrow playing some 2v2 games to get our team higher.

I beleive the game has been playing pretty well since the last patch. Community reaction has been favorable from what I've read on the various websites and our own forums. Especially pleasing are the balance changes and the performance increases that have taken place.

The next goal is to get the GPGnet patch out. Our two big features coming out are Tournaments and the Map Vault. Tournaments has proven an interesting project. From a players perspective, tournaments will be completely automated. They just have to show up on the day of the tournament, and GPGnet will put them in a custom channel and games will launch for them automatically. It will be a swiss style system by default. Swiss basically means that you are not eliminated from a tournament... you can play until the end. Tournaments will affect your 1v1 ladder ratings, although we can turn this off if it proves unpopular. More info to come on this at release.

The map vault was done by Tye Jones. This should prove an interesting feature. SupCom maps are challenging in the fact that they are not small. It's not unreasonable for a map to be 100mb in size. This makes it difficult to distribute in game... as gamers get impatient and will likely kick if a player doesn't have the map (this happens all the time in war3 even with small maps and quick download times). The vault is our answer of letting players get maps quickly without having to rely on the host for distribution. We also added a bunch of cool things above that... also to be seen on release.

Most players know that we've done a beta server for top players for the supcom patch. We also tried out the new GPGnet functionality at the same time. On the topic of map vault, we got to see some cool things by map devs. I'm particularly looking forward to some of the new work that Saya is doing (he's already done some great stuff).

StarCraft II May 20, 2007 by IN-Agent911 at 4:21pm comments(23)

I was guessing a StarCraft MMO as the announcement (money ftw!). This should be a very cool game to look forward to in the future. Of course nothing competes with Supcom in my mind at the moment :-). Tried quite a bit of C&C3, and it just doesn't do it for me. Not enough in-depth strategy for multi player, but very fun single player.

It was pretty good. There were a few moments that had me rolling.

The Zen of Supreme Commander May 15, 2007 by IN-Agent911 at 3:05pm comments(2)

Gnug215 has been working on an article over at GameReplays.org:

http://www.gamereplays.org/community/The_Zen_of_Supreme_Commander_part_2-t237086.html

This article is cool because it talks about the mentel aspects of being a good RTS player in general (but he applies it to Supcom). It is very difficult to analyze yourself as a player, and how you think. Under pressure, especially game pressure, it is very painful to change how you react to situations and improve. His guide gives some insights on what you should do to advance from the very beginnings of playing Supcom, up to being a good player. He is currently on part 2 of 3. The last stage, coming soon, will cover expert players.

I'm busy putting in the layout and getting a page that is ready to rock and roll and easy to post to. I'm currently using ZNews for the news system, and trying to figure out a way to support comments without having those cursed bots post spam links everywhere.
